SK

Somkiat Kliangklao

Bangkok · Watch collector

"Brought in a Seiko 6105 that had been running erratically since I bought it at auction. The diagnostic report was clear and honest — it identified worn keyless works and a mainspring showing early fatigue. The report was detailed enough that I understood exactly what the options were before I committed to anything. Went ahead with the full service. The watch came back regulated to around +4 sec/day, which is better than the original spec."

"I had a Valjoux-based chronograph with a sticky reset — it would reset but the hands were landing slightly off zero. The complication recalibration service addressed exactly that. The technician explained the mechanism clearly before starting work and confirmed the price. After the observation period, the chronograph resets cleanly. The short performance report they provided is a useful document to keep with the watch."

"Used the diagnostic report service for a pre-owned Rolex I was considering. The report was thorough and gave me a realistic picture of what the movement needed. The watch turned out to need more work than the seller had suggested, which helped me negotiate. The report took about a week to prepare, which was slightly longer than I expected, but the quality of the written assessment made the wait reasonable."

"My grandfather's Omega Seamaster had not been serviced in over twenty years. siamchra was straightforward about what to expect — significant wear in certain areas, some parts that would need replacement. The report came with photographs I had not expected, showing the actual state of the components. The full service took four weeks. The watch now keeps time reliably and the pressure test confirmed the case seals are holding."

"The GMT complication on my watch was jumping the wrong way after a few months of ownership. I did not know if it was a wear issue or a setting I had missed. The recalibration service included a fault trace — turned out to be a worn detent spring in the jumping mechanism. The part was sourced and replaced. The observation cycle they describe in the service outline is real; they kept the watch for five weeks before returning it. Worth it."

"I used the diagnostic service before deciding whether to service an Orient I had found at an estate sale. The report identified a crack in the balance staff and light corrosion on several components. Based on that, I decided not to proceed with a full service — the piece was not worth the cost relative to its sentimental value. The report gave me what I needed to make that decision without pressure. A sensible service for what it is."

Three detailed service accounts

Case 01

Vintage Seiko 6139 Chronograph — Full Rehabilitation

The situation

A 1974 Seiko 6139 purchased abroad had stopped running entirely within six weeks of arrival. The owner suspected water ingress from the crown area but could not confirm without opening the case.

The work

Diagnostic report first: confirmed water damage to the mainspring and partial corrosion on two bridge components. Owner approved full service. Mainspring replaced, corroded parts cleaned where recoverable. The chronograph column wheel required a replacement sourced from an approved parts supplier — this was confirmed with the owner before sourcing.

The result

Watch returned after 4 weeks. Rate measured at −2 sec/day. Chronograph function restored. Pressure tested to 3ATM. Owner has continued to use it daily for the months since collection.

Case 02

ETA 2892-based Annual Calendar — Recalibration

The situation

The date disc on an annual calendar module had started advancing at incorrect intervals — jumping twice some nights and not advancing on others. The main timekeeping remained accurate, suggesting an isolated complication issue.

The work

Complication recalibration service engaged. The annual calendar module was isolated and inspected. The issue was traced to a worn instantaneous date cam causing inconsistent engagement. The cam was replaced from approved spares. The module was recalibrated and observed over 12 days across different daily-wear simulation conditions.

The result

Calendar module advancing correctly across all months observed during the verification period. Performance report included dates of observation, behaviour at each midnight, and the corrective action taken. Watch returned at week five.

Case 03

Pre-purchase Assessment — Tudor Black Bay GMT

The situation

A buyer was considering a privately listed Tudor with service papers from 3 years prior. The seller could not provide evidence of how the watch had been used. The buyer wanted an independent assessment before committing to the purchase price.

The work

Diagnostic and condition report engaged. Movement opened and inspected. Report documented current lubrication state (still adequate), evidence of moderate wear consistent with regular use, and no signs of impact or moisture ingress. GMT mechanism inspected and found to be functioning correctly. Report delivered with photographs.

The result

Buyer received an independent, documented basis for the purchase decision. The report confirmed the watch was in reasonable condition and that a service was not urgent — providing negotiating clarity. No service was required at this stage.
